myLot Discussions | | Is the Macbook Air really worth it? | | Go to apples website and the first thing you'll see is the apple macbook air, gently placed inside a manilla envelope to demonstrate its compactness. I only heard about the macbook air about a month ago and was amazed. I was fascinated by its slimness and beautiful "typical mac" design. After checking on the technical specs and reviews i was beginning to think otherwise. Because of its general size, the macbook air needs alot of external hardware to make it function like any normal laptops would. With it's already high price tag, it seems many people would be more inclined to buying something else rather than a slim downed version of the existing powerbook.
What do you think, is it worth putting an investment on this product or just buying a cheaper equivalent (minus the physical specs of course)?.. | |
| | Macbook air | | The Macbook air is a designing feat, being the world's thinnest laptop ever. Measuring in at about .90 of an inch, the Macbook air can't have the power of a desktop, or even a good laptop, right? If you travel a ton, and don't mind losing your laptop in a small stack of papers, the macbook air might seem like a possibility to consider, but if you don't mind the already thin Macbook or Macbook pro, go for the Macbook or Macbook pro.Buying a Macbook air means forfeiting many features, including a major step back in processing power, a step down in hard drive space, A hard to replace battery, and a CD slot! Having to plug in a large external disc drive sort of loses the whole "Super portable" effect. The processing power is a mere 1.6 - 1.8 Ghz, the hard drive a small 64 - 80 GB (depending onn which processing power you choose, the smaller processing power for the bigger hard drive), and the CD slot is external, costs an extra $99 AND is not as thin as the notebook. The Powerbook goes from 2.4 to 2.6 Ghz of processing power, and up to a 300 GB hard drive. The macbook has 2.1 to 2.4 Ghz of power, way better, a whole 0.8 Ghz of power bonus on average.Sure, the macbook air can... | |

| | | New MacBook killer? | | All this talk about the new MacBook, sleek, sexy, little MacBook. It's a really good laptop, I must say. It's a bit overprice but you're also paying for the brand.I was surfing around today stumbling upon the new Dell Studio XPS. And first thing that came to mind was that this will be a crazy real competitor to the MacBook. Similar design, better performance, lower price. What are your thoughts on this? I am tempted to get one to try it out:) | |
