myLot Discussions | | Computers should cost still less | | For all the aspiring computer technologists and computer enthusiasts it will be nice and most welcome if the computers cost a little less. The cost of the computers and laptops are sometimes felt as sky high by the people who belong to the middle class income group. Therefore as the price of television has come down if the prices of computers also come down it will be good. | |
| | Eee PCs? | | So I'm assuming that at least a few of you have heard about how paranoid customs can be when it comes to anything electronic, including laptops. I am going abroad this September for six months, and would like to take my laptop along. However, my parents both think that this is a bad idea, and that I should bring along a super cheap little laptop with a small amount of space- just enough to do the very bare minimum of things like checking email or saving a few word documents.I did a little research, and now I'm considering just replacing my laptop in general with one of these guys- an Eee PC 1000H, to be precise. Right now, I have an old Dell Inspiron 700m (around three years old or so) with 50 gigs of space and.... other such specs. The Eee PC 1000H has around 80gigs, with 1gig of RAM already installed, and other such interesting specs as well, including bluetooth and a webcam.Needless to say, I'm super interested in this little computer. I also checked out another one that's apparently similar (but cheaper), but can't find it anywhere for sale- i.e. the MSI wind. Now, I have to ask you guys for help on this.-Would you buy an Eee PC, of any model? (You can... | |
| | | | Would You Buy an Linux-Based Everex PC For $199? | | Wal-Mart is selling very cheap computers (at $199) called Everex. These computers are so cheap because they use a distribution of the free operating system Linux. The name of this distribution is gOs (as in Green OS). The computer comes with all the software that an average user or family would need, that is an email program, a web browser, skype, the open office suite and many free Google applications. The PC comes with a keyboard, a mouse and speakers. Though, users will have to buy the monitor separately. The first computers were sold at Wal-Mart very quickly. This implies that average users are not that afraid of using an alternative operating system after all. Wal-Mart is going to put more of these computers on the shelves. Unfortunately, they are only sold in the united states for the time being.Would you buy this computer given the fact that it is not based on Windows but on Linux? | |
| | Does anyone know where I can get a free or cheap computer for home school? | | I'm thinking about home schooling my child for at least a couple years and would like to locate a computer that she could do her studies on. Her former computer is cranky and doesn't work all that well. And, it is not modern enough to connect to the Internet. A friend told me that her neighbor got a free computer for her home-school child from a charitable organization. And, someone else suggested there might actually be a government agency that gives out free computers to home school students. However, I haven't been able to locate the agency yet. Does anyone know if this is true? Would love to sign up for that program when the time comes. It would be very useful! Does anyone have information on whether free or cheap computers are available for home school students and where I could locate them? | |
